The reason why i wrote this article, is because, many of my friends and relatives got their orkut account hacked, and their password compromised and ended up loosing their account. so i hope, to help others realise the threat and prepare their defences, there is no technique to completely guarantee 100% protection, but we can use these techniques to protect it as best as we can. i have been using orkut since october 2004, and many hackers have tried to steal my password, but by following simple steps i was able to laugh at their face
Hacking technique 1.. the easiest way to hack someone's orkut account, is to send them to a fake 'orkut duplicate site'... the victim thinks he got logged out, and then tries to log back in...... but instead the hacker steps in and steal your password
This technique is sooooo easy, that many hackers have created a number of fake sites, which look exactly like orkut, i often end up on such fake sites, but by using a simple precaution, save my password
How to protect yourself from this - whenever you see an orkut login page, check the addressbar, and make sure it says, Orkut.com or google.com (or orkut.co.in or orkut.com.br) if you have any doubts, simple close the window (/tab) and open orkut.com on a fresh page
Hacking technique 2.. now coming to a bit harder method, in this technique, the hacker send a virus (/malware /trojan) to your computer, that records everything you type, most cyber cafes, and public computers are already affected with such viruses, these viruses do not delete anything from your computer, they just sit there, and steal your passwords.
How to protect yourself from this most of the times such viruses enter from your 'internet browser' now, internet explorer is pretty safe on an updated, and orignal, windows system, but if someone uses pirated version of windows, you will probably get these viruses faster if you use Internet explorer on such 'pirated windows xp' (/vista) so, the safe thing to do is, stop using internet explorer, download, Firefox, or Google chrome they are safe, secure, absolutely free, and very very fast, i personally prefer google chrome, it changed the way i use the internet, this is just much much faster now.
These are the two main techniques hackers used on my orkut account, and hence i provided simple techniques i used to protect myself, two more things that experts recommend, is to keep an effective and updated antivirus, and firewall to protect your computer from threats,
